It's official: Supergiant Games' Hades is getting a sequel, with Hades II getting a first look at tonight's Game Awards.

Further details, like release window and platform availability, were not immediately announced. It will release in early access in 2023.

The news was a delightful surprise for the Game Awards crowd, as Supergiant hadn't previously committed to releasing a sequel for their beloved dungeon crawler. As recently as last year, writer Greg Kasavin told NME that he wasn't sure if there would be a Hades II.

Hades became an indie hit after it was released in 2020. IGN gave it a 9/10, writing that it's "a one-of-a-kind rogue-lite that sets the bar for creatively combining wildly different genres together and using their strengths to complement each other in unexpected ways."

It also had an impressive showing at that year's Game Awards, winning Best Indie, Best Action, and scoring nominations for Game of the Year, Narrative, Art Direction, Score and Music, and Performance for Logan Cunningham.
